scott + casey
Scott & Casey met in June of 2006, while she was working as a server at a popular hangout in East Lansing. Casey was a student at the time and new to MSU and East Lansing. Scott and his friends sat at one of Casey’s tables, while they talked and joked around. They both hoped they’d see each other again, but weren’t sure what might happen.
Scott left for a two week trip, and Casey hoped she would run in to him again. Scott would later confess that he knew the night he met her that Casey was the girl he was going to marry. After Scott returned, mutual friends arranged for Scott and Casey to go on a date. From that day forward, they rarely spent any time apart.
Scott and Casey were engaged on her birthday, August 3, 2007. In Casey’s words: “I had to no idea it was going to happen. Scott took me out for a birthday dinner. He was very nervous and quiet. When we sat down to dinner, he had a speech all ready and got down on one knee. He proposed and I, of course, said yes! He had called ahead so our server came over immediately after it happened, with champagne.”
Immediately Scott and Casey began to make plans for their dream wedding. “Once Scott and I were engaged, I started buying insane amounts of Bridal magazines,” Casey said. She had a copy of every magazine that came out that summer. The couple focused their wedding theme around the fall – their favorite season. With that in mind, they wanted the wedding to be rich and elegant, with a lot of deep brown, burgundy, gold, and champagne.
The bridesmaid dresses were chocolate brown with champagne sashes. The groomsmen wore black tuxes with a deep brown vest and tie.
The ceremony was held at Scott’s family church, The Peoples Church in East Lansing. There was really never any question that they would have their ceremony anywhere else. The church has a great amount of family sentiment attached to it, as Scott’s grandfather helped with the designing and building of the church.
Finding a reception site wasn’t as easy. Since Casey grew up in Grand Rapids, MI, she wasn’t even sure where to begin. A friend had mentioned the Kellogg Center as a wonderful location, so she set up an appointment. “I absolutely loved it - I actually signed a contract the day we visited!” Casey says. The Big Ten Room was a perfect fit, especially since Scott is an MSU Alumnus and proud Spartan!
All of the details came together perfectly on the wedding day. Their dream wedding took place on a perfect day with perfect Michigan fall weather. Crisp, cool and perfectly romantic. Looking back on their wedding, Casey says, “I wanted this to be the wedding of my dreams, and it definitely turned out that way.”
