Ben and Katie are diehard Spartan fans, so it’s only fitting that they would first meet during a road trip to a Michigan State football matchup. And when they decided to get married, they had no choice but to celebrate their vows in their beloved college town of East Lansing.

They planned their August wedding with the help of the planners at Weddings by Nicole. The couple decided on a color palette highlighting Ben’s favorite color, blue, with accents of lime green and white for a modern touch—and maybe a nod to their beloved Spartans!

The site of Ben and Katie’s nuptials was the rustic and timeless MSU Alumni Memorial Chapel. A string quartet from the Lansing Symphony Orchestra provided ceremony music as Katie’s dad walked her down the aisle. Ben’s childhood minister, Rev. John Folkers, facilitated the ceremony, which included Ben and Katie’s wedding party surrounding them in a “circle of friends” while they exchanged vows and lit a unity candle. The traditional chapel bells rang as the two were pronounced husband and wife, and they headed off to the University Club to celebrate!

At the elegant University Club at MSU, the bride and groom’s 165 guests enjoyed cocktail hour before sitting down to dinner. The newlyweds danced for the first time as husband and wife to Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” and it wasn’t long until the dance floor was filled.

“Once the cake had been cut and the MSU Fight Song had been played, [we] really got the party started,” Katie said. “Our friends and family had a great time on the dance floor.”

Guests were treated to a late night snack of cookies and milk, and the staff at the University Club kept the party going by extending the reception time. Everyone was having too much fun to see the evening come to an end!

Because Ben and Katie chose to incorporate a photo booth into their reception, every guest was able to take home a personal souvenir of the day. All Ben and Katie need to look back on their special day are their photos from Marvin Hall Photography, and, of course, their memories of their perfect summer wedding in East Lansing.
